What parameters can NIR measure in food?

NIR spectroscopy simultaneously measures moisture, protein, fat/oil, fiber, ash, and starch content. It requires no chemicals and sample preparation is often minimal.

Is NIR suitable for edible oils?

Yes, FT-NIR is excellent for analyzing edible oils. It can determine Iodine Value (IV), Free Fatty Acids (FFA), trans fats, and moisture content in less than a minute, replacing time-consuming titrations.

Can I analyze heterogeneous samples like feed?

Absolutely. Instruments like the MPA II use a rotating sample cup or integrating sphere to average the signal from a large volume of heterogeneous material (like grain or feed), ensuring representative results.
